An invention many of us take for granted, there are shelves all around us. It's a very useful invention for storage and over the years we have adapted the design to suit a vast range of storage options, such as bookshelves and cupboards, however with regards to warehouse storage, it's hard to forget pallet racking .

What Is Pallet Racking?

Pallet racking has been in most British warehouses since the Second World War. There are numerous different styles of pallet racking, however all types allow for palletised goods to be stored in rows with multiple levels, thus maximising the horizontal space of the warehouse. Similar to how you might use a spice rack in a kitchen to conveniently store jars of spices in a neat and tidy manner; pallet racking allows warehouses to store large quantities of different products whilst still maintaining an easy to navigate area.

There are numerous different styles of pallet racking, one of which is the selective pallet racking system which comes in one of two configurations, Roll formed and structural. Roll formed which is usually manufactured in a teardrop style that uses mounting clips, allowing for quick changes in configuration and shelving. In this style of packing, pallets are rested on horizontal load beams which area held in place by the above mentioned mounting clips.

On the other hand, the other form of selective pallet racking, structural racking systems are very similar in design to roll formed, however their horizontal load beams are attached to the uprights with bolts, providing a much greater weight bearing capacity. However, don't be mistaken into thinking that these bolts reduce the adjustability of this design, the racks can be constructed, reconfigured, dismantled, and reused as necessary.

What Pallet Racking Services Are Available From P&D Projects?

At P&D Projects, we can provide businesses with three different pallet racking services. We can provide professional installation services, pallet racking relocation services, and we can provide repairs to damaged pallet racking.

  • Installation Services
Our team can provide an installation service for pallet racking systems. However, in order to get the most out of the available space in your warehouse, it's essential that you consider the physical space between each rack. This means that the aisles must have enough space for your employees to comfortably move between the racks and operate appropriate machinery such as forklifts.

If you are unsure what type of racking system or combination of systems is required for your warehouse or storage area, do not worry. The P&D Projects team will be happy to help you select the right system.

  • Racking Relocation
If you're moving location and you're concerned about the pallet racking systems installed on your current premises, P&D Projects can provide a valuable racking relocation solution.

Our talented team of professionals can organise the dismantling and reinstallation of your existing racking, and adding new components where needed to extend the height and reconfigure to suit the new warehouse.

  • Pallet Racking Repair From time to time, pallet racking can get damaged in a wide variety of different ways; for example a forklift truck could accidently crash into one of the uprights. If your racking is damaged for any reason, it is essential that professional repairs are carried out swiftly. Our repair team are familiar with a wide variety of different pallet rack manufactures; including but not limited to Link 51, Apex, Dexion, Planned Storage, and Hilo. However, if your rack was manufactured by a different business, don't worry; get in touch with our team and we'll see what we can do to help.
